As a Registered Nurse in the emergency department, you will be working across all areas of the specialty including Triage, Minor Injuries and Illness (Ambulatory Pathway), Majors (Clinical Assessment), trauma, and Resus. The department operates 24 hours a day, so shift work including nights would be required.
We are looking for suitably qualified nurses from various adult nursing specialties with transferrable skills to aid patient assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients with emergency injuries or illnesses.
Working within the Emergency Department, your main duties will include:
1. Organising and participating in the delivery of high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
2. Taking responsibility to carry out planned, direct patient care to a high standard without direct supervision, in accordance with established nursing procedures and policies.
3. Contributing to health promotion for all patients by providing education, support, and advice as necessary, ensuring referral to appropriate professionals or agencies as required.
4. In the absence of senior staff, taking responsibility for delegating and supervising appropriate work to other qualified staff, healthcare support workers, and students.
5. Where relevant, being responsible for and assisting in the coordination of discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
6. Taking personal responsibility for treating all patients with courtesy, respecting their individual needs, and maintaining confidentiality.
7. Ensuring the provision of a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives, visitors, and colleagues.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as several community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various consultant-led services. WGH provides general hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three hospitals provide planned care services, including outpatient clinics, diagnostics, therapies, day surgery, and inpatient surgery. Additionally, a range of outreach services and diagnostics are provided across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are delivered in people's homes, community centers, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals, and main hospitals. Our goal is to work with individuals to help them remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high-quality care, advice, and support.
