Overview
The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area in the absence of the team leader. The post holder is supervised by a named therapist, with clinical and professional supervision provided through regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training. The post holder will link with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget. The level of managerial responsibility includes supervision and appraisal of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates, with the support of the Band 7. When performing on-call duties, staff must be available on the ward within 45 minutes of the call. For staff living more than 45 minutes from the hospital, a designated on-call room for overnight stay is available in GRH and is free of charge. This room can be used by staff at both sites.
Responsibilities
* Assume responsibility for day-to-day management of the clinical area in the absence of the team leader.
* Be supervised by a named therapist; engage in regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training.
* Collaborate with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to ensure appropriate resource use within budget.
* Supervise and appraise junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates with support from the Band 7.
* Fulfil on-call duties with on-site availability within 45 minutes of the call; access on-call accommodation for staff living farther away as required.
* Contribute to service development and clinical governance in line with national and local drivers.
* Consolidate and enhance skills and competencies to provide holistic care using the Therapy Competency Framework; participate in training and development and deliver research-based in-service training as directed.
* Participate in supervision, caseload monitoring and clinical education of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduate students; assess and evaluate competence and contribute to undergraduate education as a clinical educator for students from the University of the West of England or other universities.
