Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 who would like to join the trauma team at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

The role involves working close with the MDT to ensure trauma patients receive appropriate care and timely interventions in accordance with appropriate pathways.

The successful candidate would ideally have experience in nursing trauma patients and have an understanding of emergency care pathways and patient flow on the acute site. However, training will be given if needed

The post holder will provide support and leadership within the Trauma Service contributing to service development and redesign to improve the patient’s pathway and experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful post holder will-

* Act as a role model and mentor to staff, supporting the ward and OPD managers, with the clinical governance
* Attend the daily trauma meeting to discuss with the Orthopaedic consultant and medical teams the admissions from the previous day/night.
* Effectively communicate with the Orthopaedic consultant and all staff present at the meeting, the number of cases that are waiting for surgery, their treatment plans and current health status (eg. fit/unfit).
* Attend the daily post on-call consultant ward round in order to enable formal assessment of the recent trauma
* Regularly communicate with the trauma theatre personnel in order to maintain effective communication
* Trauma/Orthopaedic outliers
* Create adequate communication links with the staff from other surgical/medical specialties when trauma patients are on out-lying wards in order to provide advice and training on Orthopaedic/trauma nursing issues and to disseminate information from the Orthopaedic consultant and their
* Maintain effective communication with the duty bed manager in order to identify and prioritise those patients who need to be admitted or repatriated to the trauma ward.

Qualifications

* 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant branch)
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Teaching and Assessing Course
* Degree /Diploma Studies Specialists Skills Course


Experience

* Experience of working on own and as a member of a team
* Experience in Trauma and patient flow


Skills

* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
* Ability to maintain and improve standards of care
* Computer skills and database management


Knowledge

* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* Knowledge of evidence based practice.
* Understanding of research/audit
* Experience of audit
* Understanding of NOF pathway
* Research
* Understanding of resource management
* Understanding of education/student Requirements


Additional

* Able to work day/evening/night duty over a 7 day week
* Flexible and positive approach to work
* • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence
