Work set up: Hybrid (3 days per week in Sheffield office)
Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for an OpenShift Build Engineer with strong DevOps expertise to support end-to-end software delivery lifecycle activities. This role bridges development and operations by implementing Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions, and system reliability practices. The position plays a key role in building, automating, and maintaining scalable and secure OpenShift-based environments within an enterprise setting.
What you will do:
* Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
* Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
* Manage and monitor on-premises and OpenShift-based environments.
* Implement and manage containerisation and orchestration platforms including Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
* Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of systems and environments.
* Collaborate with development, QA, and IT operations teams to streamline build and release processes.
* Troubleshoot and resolve deployment, build, and infrastructure issues.
* Maintain configuration management tools and automation frameworks.
* Monitor system health and performance using tools such as Grafana and Splunk.
* Apply DevSecOps principles including secrets management and security controls within CI/CD pipelines.
* Maintain source control repositories using Git or Bitbucket.
* Support Agile or Scrum delivery methodologies and participate in cross-team ceremonies.
* Continuously improve automation, deployment strategies, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
* Five to eight years of experience in DevOps engineering, build engineering, or platform engineering roles.
* Strong scripting and programming skills in Bash, Python, or Shell.
* Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
* Proven experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
* Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Ansible and Terraform.
* Solid understanding of source control systems including Git and Bitbucket.
* Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Grafana and Splunk.
* Good understanding of DevSecOps practices, security controls, and compliance requirements.
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in enterprise environments.
* Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams with strong cross-team communication skills.
