Offer description

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a fantastic SEND school in the Bristol/South Glos area. We are currently looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH), Autism, and other learning difficulties.

An ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced school environment, demonstrate adaptability, and have strong communication skills. We are especially interested in individuals who have studied or worked within the creative arts (such as music, art, or drama), as these creative skills bring a fresh, engaging energy to the classroom. This role would suit someone local to the Bristol/South Glos area who is passionate about working with young people, able to build meaningful relationships quickly, and confident in supporting students to make positive choices.

This is a brilliant opportunity for people with a background in creative arts, care, or youth work to step into education with full training and ongoing support provided. You’ll play a key role in pupils’ development — academically, emotionally, socially, and behaviourally. The school is seeking a proactive and passionate team player to join on a short‑term basis, with the potential to move into a longer‑term role for the right person. You’ll be working across all key stages with pupils who have SEND, SEMH, and challenging behaviours, so confidence, patience, and a calm approach are essential.

Qualifications

* Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs or disabilities
* Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, SEND and SEMH
* A background in education, care, youth work, or the creative arts
* Confidence in managing behaviour and supporting emotional/social development
* Key traits: Patience, empathy, and a positive, team‑first attitude
* A valid driving licence or access to transport

Benefits

* A dedicated team of Bristol‑based consultants available 24/7 for support
* Access to our Guaranteed Payment Scheme (T & C's apply)
* CPD courses and certificates via the My-Progression platform
* Market‑leading rates of pay
* A generous referral scheme – earn up to £100 when you refer a friend (T & C's apply)
* PAYE payroll – ensuring correct tax and national insurance payments, with no hidden admin fees
