THE SCHOOL
St Mary's CE Primary School takes children from 4-11 years old and is located close to the centre of the market town of Beverley, 5 miles North West of Hull. About half the children attending the school live outside the catchment area and a strong sense of the school as a learning community is something we are proud to have created. St Mary's is a larger than average primary school with 390 children on roll currently organised into 14 classes - an Early Years area, 4 classes in Key Stage 1 and 8 in Key Stage 2.
Ofsted judged our school to be a continuously good school in September 2023. In June 2019, we were judged as excellent at our Section 48 SIAMS inspection.

THE POST
Charge Hand Cleaner- Permanent
The Headteacher & Governing Body are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Charge Hand Cleaner to ensure the cleaning team at St Mary's Primary work well as a team to safely, effectively and efficiently clean the school interior and present the school to a very high standard throughout.
This newly created role has been made possible by bringing the existing valued cleaning team in-house. It is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop their skill set and to really make this role their own. The Charge Hand Cleaner is a 'hands on' role with a defined area to clean and an experienced and friendly team of cleaners to supervise, supporting and enabling them to increase efficiency.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced cleaner with supervisory experience, a good understanding of COSHH regulations and experienced in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of services.
You should have significant cleaning experience, COSHH accreditation (or willingness to work towards), good interpersonal skills, be suitable to work with young people, a good understanding of health and safety procedures and ability to achieve high standards of presentation (cleaning).

Job Description: Job Title **Charge Hand Cleaner
Responsible to **School Business Manager/ Caretaker **ERYC Grade **3A
Overall Purpose: To deliver an efficient cleaning service ensuring presentation to a high standard to create a positive experience for pupils, visitors and staff at St Mary's Primary.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Maintain a log of required cleaning tasks as agreed by the School Business Manager and organise the daily deployment of cleaning staff to relevant work areas (amending the defined work schedule as necessary) so that cleaning resources are deployed to areas of need and take account of changing circumstances.
2. Monitor the work of cleaning staff to ensure safe and appropriate use of cleaning materials and machinery, in accordance with statutory guidelines, COSHH, Health and Safety regulations and agreed standards of cleaning.
3. Maintain checks on cleaning stocks and equipment to ensure that there is adequate stock (cleaning materials), equipment is fit for use and to enable the reporting of any deficiencies or issues. Stock lists must be updated weekly.
4. Supervise the cleaning team and undertake general manual cleaning of defined facilities, as directed and specified within schedules, to ensure presentation is of a high standard.
5. Ensure that the cleaning equipment and chemical cleaning agents used are school approved and COSHH documentation is kept on file. Ensure that the use of the equipment and chemical cleaning agents is in line with manufacturer recommendations to ensure safe and effective use for yourself and the team.
6. Attend training courses and meetings as directed by the School Business Manager and train/coach the cleaning team accordingly.
7. Ensure that the uniform and personal protective equipment provided by the centre is worn by all cleaning staff when on duty (including yourself).
8. Report damage or other potential health and safety issues to Caretaker/School Business Manager so that issues can be resolved promptly. This includes reporting perceived workplace hazards or problems identified by cleaning staff so that they can ensure a safe working environment.
9. Any duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade and level of responsibility of the post as directed by the School Business Manager.

Essential Criteria
* COSHH accreditation (or willingness to work towards)
* Suitable to work with children and young people
* Trained in dealing with hazards and potentially hazardous waste

* Experienced cleaner with good knowledge of how to use cleaning products and equipment

Desirable Criteria
* Previous experience in successfully improving efficiency / effectiveness of services (cleaning or similar)
* Previous work experience effectively supervising cleaners

* Works using own initiative
* Understands the need for change.
