About the Role
We are recruiting for a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist on our Avondale assessment unit in Hull. Avondale is a 14‑bed in‑patient facility based in inner city Hull and offers assessment for people with a variety of mental health needs across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The average length of stay is around four days. You will be supported by a full‑time Speciality Doctor and, if you gain Clinical Supervisor Status, resident doctors.
Actual working hours are 40 hours. The post is paid as 12PAs. A generous relocation package is offered.
Responsibilities
* Have clinical responsibility for assessing and reviewing people who access our services.
* Have Responsible Clinician status and be Section 12 approved.
* Provide senior medical leadership to the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Undertake the assessment and management of complex cases, develop care plans, provide treatment formulation and guidance on evidence‑based treatment and effectiveness.
* Develop professional relationships with colleagues, promoting multi‑disciplinary working.
* Share the vision of integrated and multi‑disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support.
* Be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA approval or be approved as a Responsible Clinician.
* Commute within the Trust’s geographical area with access to appropriate means of transport.
Qualifications & Requirements
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification, qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under Section 12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment, excellent knowledge in specialty.
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
* Makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others.
* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or equivalent service.
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Ability to work in and lead a team.
* Able to plan, deliver and appraise clinical evidence for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation.
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
* Accessibility to commute within the Trust’s geographical area using appropriate means of transport.
