Overview
AtkinsRéalis is a leading engineering, environmental and design consultancy offering opportunities to work on high‑profile projects across the UK and overseas. Our Water Management Consultancy team leads the development of resilient and sustainable water supplies, delivering Water Resource Management Plans and Strategic Resource Options (SROs). We support clients—including central government, regulators, the water industry, NGOs and local authorities—in making strategic investment decisions for critical infrastructure in water resources, flood management, green infrastructure and transportation.
Your Role
* Experience working in the UK water industry and demonstrable technical leadership in water resource planning, water supply or similar projects.
* Excellent problem‑solving ability, with a deep understanding of the complex nature of water resource planning and optioning, and the ability to develop and appraise options while managing delivery of complex interdisciplinary plans and projects.
* Strategic thinking with an eye for the broader picture at concept stage and meticulous detail in appraisals using consistent approaches.
* Solid knowledge of raw and potable water supply transfer systems, water storage and treatment.
* Understanding of delivery, implementation and operational risks associated with water resource and water supply projects.
* Client‑focused with strong relationship‑building skills, collaborating effectively to understand client needs and win work.
* Excellent communication skills, able to engage in technical discussions with colleagues and clients, and adapt presentation style to diverse audiences.
* Clarity in technical writing, including visualisation and interpretation of complex data (numerical, written and verbal).
* Positive interpersonal skills, flexibility, multitasking and prioritisation.
* Confidence to lead technical work and mentor junior team members.
* Organisational, project management and commercial awareness advantageous.
* Capability to comply with Quality Assurance Management Systems.
* Relevant degree or vocational qualification, preferably in civil or environmental engineering.
* Chartered with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or CIWEM) advantageous.

* Lead dynamic project teams, working with specialists to deliver the technical scope.
* Take ownership of technical appraisals and make sound, justified engineering decisions appropriate for the available information and concept stage.
* Seek improvements in the development and representation of technical options, ensuring a clear, consistent flow of information.
* Produce high‑quality client and public‑facing deliverables, demonstrating excellence in communication and visualisation of complex data.
* Maintain and develop relationships with key clients, strengthening both personal and AtkinsRéalis' reputation in water resource option development and appraisal.
* Manage project and programme resources, budgets and coordination with other disciplines.
* Identify work‑winning opportunities and progress a suite of projects, including tender responses and fee estimates.

Security Clearance
This role may require security clearance; offers of employment depend on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. The vetting process is conducted by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require proof of UK residency of five years or longer. During the interview, clearance requirements will be discussed.
