Business Cell Lead AWE currently have a great opportunity for a Business Cell Lead to support our Orion laser science capability. You will be joining our TE&TD function, underpinning the delivery of the Trials, Test, and Experiments programme. Location – AWE (Aldermaston). Package: £49,480 - £78,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience) Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. Whilst we consider flexible working requests, due to the operational nature of the role, most of the time will be spent working on site at AWE Aldermaston. Let us introduce the role Orion is a high energy density physics experimental facility that enables AWE scientists and physicists to improve their science understanding at extreme temperatures and pressures (up to 10 million degrees, which is like temperatures found at the centre of the Sun). The facility also works in partnership with academia and universities across the UK to deliver mutually beneficial research in STEM. This is a great opportunity to be the business lead in unique scientific research which underpins the safety and performance of our defence programmes. This role sits within our Trials, Experiments and Technology Development function, and the successful candidate will be working with a team of like-minded individuals to deliver operational capability and support its maintenance and obsolescence. Supporting and accountable to the Orion principal operations manager, you will be key in the co-ordinating and planning, with an oversight of direct spend; analysis of metrics; reporting and actioning of appropriate measures. The Business Cell lead performs a business management role and is responsible for: Planning: Administers the integrated plan that summarises and deconflicts programme plans. Performs Operational planning and manpower planning. Resource Allocation: Facilitating management of resources such as budget, personnel, and technology to optimise productivity and achieve strategic goals. Risk Management: Identifying, collating and mitigating business risks, issues and opportunities that concern Orion. Strategic Planning: Facilitating the development and execution of the organisation's strategic plan, aligning the organisation’s activities with broader business objectives. Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Tracking and analysing performance metrics to ensure that Orion meets its goals and objectives. Implementing corrective actions when necessary to ensure that the organisation stays on track. This includes identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes. Lead and Lag Measures: These metrics help predict future performance (lead measures) and assess past performance (lag measures), providing a comprehensive view of business health. Stakeholder Communication: Maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including other business cells, senior management, and customers. Employee Engagement: Facilitates communication within Orion. Works with Sub-Function to gauge the level of employee involvement and satisfaction, which can impact productivity and retention. Measures the ability to retain employees and customers, indicating the stability and satisfaction within Orion. Enterprise Architecture: Supporting the Orion Principal Operations Manager to structure the organisation to ensure efficient operations, including defining roles and responsibilities. Supports the leadership team to determine how the organisation can effectively achieve its strategic goals and facilitates it implementation. Orderbook: Administers the Orion orderbook using a work breakdown structure. Demonstrated delivery of business management in an operational environment. Previous experience with stakeholder management and engagement. Experience of managing budget, personnel, & technology to optimise productivity & achieve strategic goals. Previous experience in leading technical projects and task management. Previous experience in planning and safely executing experimental trials. Ability to maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality.
