Hays Education is supporting an increasing number of primary schools across Telford who are seeking skilled and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to work specifically within Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2) classrooms. Schools are looking for adaptable practitioners to join them for both short term and long term cover.
Your new role
As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children in Year 1 and Year 2, helping them build early literacy, numeracy, independence and confidence. You may assist with whole class learning, small group interventions, phonics sessions, or 1:1 support — depending on each school's needs.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with younger primary learners and wants a mix of flexibility, variety and meaningful classroom contribution.
We can offer:
1. Same day cover as well as advanced bookings
2. Full day or half day assignments (AM or PM)
3. Daily and short term supply roles
4. Long term placements lasting from 2 weeks to the remainder of the academic year
We’ll work with you to ensure the roles align with your availability, experience and preferences.
What you'll need to succeed
5. Ideally a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, as many KS1 roles require this
6. However, we also wee applicants with strong, recent and referenceable experience supporting children in a UK primary setting
7. Ability to provide recent, relevant references
8. A nurturing, patient approach with strong behaviour management skills
9. Flexibility, reliability and confidence supporting Year 1 and Year 2 pupils
10. A DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
