Job Description
Senior Sustainability Manager
Are you a Construction Industry Sustainability professional ready to make a significant impact at a leading London main contractor?
Our client is an impressive Commercial New Build and Refurbishment Main Contractor that delivers projects in the London area up to the value of £60m. They are seeking an accomplished Sustainability Manager or Senior Sustainability manager to join a forward-thinking team.
This is an opportunity to join a proactive, dedicated and passionate team of Sustainability Managers, with a significant remit to influence strategy and operations from day one.
Key Responsibilities
* Carbon Management: Take the lead on embodied carbon and whole life carbon assessments.
* Certification Leadership: Lead and manage BREEAM certifications across multiple construction sites.
* Strategic Input: Play a significant role in setting the internal strategy and minimum standards, and actively contribute to bids and tender submissions by outlining risks and opportunities.
* Circular Economy: Develop and strategize the implementation of circular economy principles, focusing on material reuse and donation opportunities.
* Social Value: Manage all social value requirements, aligning with client mandates or London Section 106 targets (e.g. apprenticeships, community outreach).
* Site Support: Provide collaborative support and guidance to project teams, with regular site visits.
Required Experience & Profile
* Main Contractor Experience: Preferably 1-3 years of proven experience working for a main contractor, or at least substantial building experience.
* Technical Knowledge: Strong, demonstrable experience with BREEAM and/or embodied carbon projects.
* Self-Starter: The ideal candidate will be highly competent and well-versed in the role's core requirements within a main contracting or major construction company environment.
* Soft Skills: Must be proactive, enthusiastic, and genuinely passionate about driving sustainability culture beyond a "tick box exercise."
* Data: Must have a solid grasp of working with data, understanding it, interrogating it and an ability to use that information to tell a story/convey the right messaging both internally and externally. Also people with experience of software systems will be of great interest as there is a project underway to unify the existing sustainability tech stack
You will be joining a team that is genuinely invested in sustainability and empowered to question current processes and seek improvements. The role is focused on technical competency and strategic input, rather than added management responsibilities.
We are looking to interview candidates before the Christmas break and have someone in place for January
Location: Central London head office (with site visits to projects, mostly in London)
