Overview
Imaging Senior Imaging Healthcare Assistant to work within the CT/MR Department at the James Paget University Hospital and within the CDC in Gorleston and the forthcoming site in Yarmouth. The role provides support to the imaging team with clinical and direct patient care duties, clerical tasks to assist patient flow, safety and experience. The post involves liaison with wards/ED, clinics and porters, requiring excellent conduct and communication in a professional manner. Working under the direction of a Registered Health Care Professional, SIDAs participate in clinical care, prioritise workload and develop competencies that safeguard practice and effectiveness in the role.
This role is vital to delivering clinical services and ensuring departmental workflow meets patient needs. It will also support patient preparation for imaging, including cannulation and pre-scanning checks. The day-to-day duties vary depending on the area and patients attended.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a designated clinical team delivering care focused on the direct needs of the individual.
* Be conversant with radiology information system (RIS), IPM, ward board and pathology result software to undertake clerical duties. Out-of-hours tracking of the patient journey through the external party portal may be required in CT/MR.
* Organise daily room bookings and ensure efficient patient flow through the imaging department from point of referral.
* Assist patients with toileting if required; support moving and handling, use of mobility aids, and correct patient positioning.
* Be aware of the patient’s emotional, social, physical and cultural needs; respect privacy, dignity and beliefs.
* Act in ways that support equality and diversity values; work as part of the team in a cooperative, professional and constructive manner.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times; report information regarding patient wellbeing to the Registered Health Care Professional promptly.
* Empower patients and families to make informed health decisions; work with patients and carers to aid successful examinations and make reasonable adjustments if necessary.
* Undertake a range of clinical competencies (e.g., safe venepuncture and cannulation) as requested by the Registered Health Care Professional; competencies checked annually; remove cannulas according to policy with correct documentation.
* Deliver oxygen therapy as required; perform and record physiological measurements within the remit of the SIDA role and report findings to the Registered Health Care Professional (e.g., basic observations, NEWS2 scores, height and weight).
* Assist the Registered Health Care Professional in maintaining a clean environment; undertake clinical activities such as ECG recording, blood glucose monitoring, and assistance with sterile procedures after appropriate training and assessment.
* Provide and receive sensitive information concerning a patient's medical condition; act in accordance with organisational policies and local SOPs with compliance checklists.
* Attend unit meetings; demonstrate understanding of consent principles and ensure valid consent prior to care; apply Mental Capacity Act principles as required.
* Promote health and safety, maintain best practice in health, safety and radiation protection; understand MR scanner access restrictions.
* Share ideas to improve care, participate in audits, and contribute to service improvement by reflecting on practice and supporting others.
* Adhere to legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines; participate in workplace meetings and contribute to care improvements.
* Work independently for routine tasks while seeking guidance for non-routine tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experience in clinical support roles within imaging or equivalent healthcare setting preferred.
* Competence in venepuncture and cannulation as advised by a Registered Health Care Professional, with annual competency checks.
* Ability to undertake basic physiological measurements and observations; familiarity with NICE/clinical guidelines as applicable.
* Commitment to patient-centred care, confidentiality and safeguarding; knowledge of Equality, Diversity and inclusion principles.
