Senior Project Manager – UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS)
UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS), a subsidiary of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), is leading the design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant. The UKIFS team is looking for a Senior Project Manager to deliver ambitious projects that underpin the nation’s mission to build a commercially viable fusion industry by 2040.
Location & Working Arrangements
West Burton, Nottinghamshire – on‑site 3 days per week. Remote support is possible for the remaining days.

Key Responsibilities
* Drive project delivery in alignment with UK Government standards and best practices.
* Lead, coach, and build capability of project teams.
* Manage budgets, negotiate decisions and keep projects on track.
* Influence and engage internal/external partners, including universities, suppliers and professional networks.
* Identify opportunities for improvement and shape innovative solutions.
* Design project structures and organisation appropriate to each delivery stage.
* Develop and maintain project plans, controls and performance reporting for sponsors.
* Identify, manage and report on risks, issues and interdependencies with related programmes.
* Support effective governance, decision making and accountability mechanisms.
* Manage change processes and deliver approved changes to stakeholders.
* Coordinate assurance reviews, stage gate reviews and other governance activities.
* Support and mentor project team members, promoting personal and team development.
Budget Responsibilities
* Manage allocated budget (typical > £10m per annum).
* Track invoices and project expenditures against the budget.
* Identify forecasted under‑ or overspend and propose corrective actions.
Qualifications
* APM Practitioner Qualification
* APM Registered Project Professional
* PRINCE2 Practitioner
* Agile Project Management Practitioner
Essential Skills and Experience
* Proven track record of leading complex (L5/L6) projects.
* Adequate engagement skills with diverse stakeholders.
* Experience in multi‑disciplinary environments with cross‑functional impacts.
Desirable Experience
* Experience with agile or hybrid delivery methodologies.
* Experience in science or engineering related projects.
* Exposure to broader programme delivery.
* Public sector procurement experience is an advantage.
* Honours/Master’s degree in project management or relevant science/engineering discipline.
