About the role
Be part of this 'once in a generation' project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity.
The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Laing O'Rourke.
We are more than just an alliance; we are bringing together a single delivery organization with extensive experience from major complex infrastructure programs worldwide.
What you'll be doing
The role involves: Conducting construction materials testing (Concrete, Earthworks, Aggregates, Grout) for marine, tunnels, earthworks, and MCA backfill packages.

* Establish and maintain safe work methods for the materials team on site and in the laboratory
Additional responsibilities include:
* Performing inspections and tests on-site and in the lab, reporting risks and opportunities immediately
* Maintaining high standards and UKAS accreditation compliance
* Following site quality systems for materials testing and reporting
* Delivering results by deadlines
* Maintaining equipment calibration and reporting defects
* Recording and reporting Best Practice to project teams and laboratory management
* Producing compliance reports as required
* Training and developing junior staff
* Managing team expectations regarding test results and timescales
* Developing testing programs for trials
* Executing trials and quality testing as per specifications

Knowledge & Skills
Essential
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to manage and present data clearly
Desirable
* Knowledge of construction materials (Concrete, Grout, Earthworks, Aggregates, Asphalt)
* Continuous improvement mindset
* Quick learner
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
* Well-organized
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory working with construction materials
* NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent
* Full UK Driving License
Desirable
* SMSTS or SSSTS qualification
* Membership of a professional institute
* Experience in training others
* Experience in KPI reporting and meeting deadlines
* Experience managing budgets
* Experience in risk assessments and method statements
