Job Overview

The postholder will work closely with the Skull Base Neurosurgery team to provide comprehensive administrative support to the Neurosurgery service. This role combines responsibilities for managing outpatient appointments and coordinating complex inpatient and daycase activity, ensuring efficient scheduling of specialist clinics, admissions and theatre lists, maintaining accurate patient records and delivering a high‑quality, responsive service to patients, clinicians and external stakeholders.


Main duties of the job

* Support the Skull Base Neurosurgery team by managing patient admissions and scheduling in line with NHS standards and Trust policies.
* Maintain elective and urgent waiting lists; add, remove and update patient details in accordance with the Trust Patient Access Policy.
* Book and coordinate theatre lists, outpatient clinics, pre‑operative assessments, diagnostic investigations and operation dates, ensuring accurate and timely PAS/EPR records.

Education / Training / Qualifications

* Good general education including GCSE in Maths or English (or equivalent).
* Advanced keyboard and computer skills (Microsoft Office).


Desirable criteria

* Patient Administration System (PAS) training.
* Experience in an NHS or similar organisation.
* Experience taking/making high volume calls and handling sensitive topics.


Work Experience and Essential Criteria

* Experience of working as part of a team in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
* Experience of working under pressure.
* Ability to demonstrate customer or patient care skills.
* Excellent customer care skills.
* The ability to work to tight deadlines in a highly pressured environment and prioritise own workload.
* The ability to work as part of a team or in a team environment.
* Ability to communicate with a broad range of individuals including clinicians.
* Willingness and ability to learn new IT skills and technology.
* Confident and sympathetic when dealing with patients/staff; calm and professional when working under pressure.
