The Opportunity Chorley is a town with a deep-rooted industrial history that has evolved into a modern hub for the North West. We are seeking a highly organized and technically proficient Facilities Supervisor to oversee the premises of a thriving secondary school. In this role, you will be the lead coordinator for the physical environment, ensuring that the school remains a safe, compliant, and inspiring place for students to learn and for staff to work. The Role & Department You will lead a dedicated team of Site Assistants and Caretakers, reporting directly to the School Business Manager or Operations Director. The role balances strategic oversight with "boots-on-the-ground" action; you will manage the long-term maintenance schedule while responding to daily operational needs. You will be responsible for a significant budget, overseeing procurement for cleaning supplies, maintenance equipment, and external service contracts. This is a year-round position that requires a proactive approach to "shutdown" periods, utilizing school holidays for major renovation and repair projects. Core Responsibilities Team Leadership: Managing the site team’s rota, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring all premises staff are trained in modern health and safety protocols. Compliance & Safety: Taking lead responsibility for the school’s health and safety records, including Fire Risk Assessments, asbestos management, and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health). Contractor Management: Procuring and supervising external contractors—from roofers to HVAC engineers—ensuring all work is completed to a high standard and within budget. Project Oversight: Planning and executing small-to-medium scale improvement projects, such as classroom refurbishments or the installation of new security systems. Budgetary Control: Monitoring the facilities budget, identifying cost-saving initiatives (such as energy-efficient lighting upgrades) without compromising on site quality. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a leader with a "solutions-focused" mindset and a strong technical background. Requirements include: Experience: Significant experience in facilities management, site supervision, or a senior trade role (e.g., Site Foreman), ideally within an educational or public sector setting. Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and current Health & Safety legislation (IOSH or NEBOSH certification is highly desirable). Organisational Skill: Proficiency in using facilities management software or CAFM systems to track work orders and compliance deadlines. Communication: The ability to liaise professionally with the Senior Leadership Team, governors, and local authority representatives. Why Join Us? A pivotal leadership role where you can have a direct impact on the school’s efficiency and environmental sustainability. Access to advanced professional development, including leadership training and specialist facilities certifications. A supportive and professional staff culture within a town that offers excellent transport links across Lancashire and Greater Manchester. The stability of a key-worker role in a school that is deeply committed to the well-being of its staff and pupils.
