Responsibilities
* Perform ESWL (Lithotripsy) treatments on patients to a high Clinical standard, ensuring full compliance with the Unit SOP.
* Review pre‑treatment images and assess stone location prior to treatment, checking for contraindications.
* Conduct radiographic examinations, accurately locating and targeting the stone with shockwaves to agreed treatment protocols.
* Plan, organise and treat a worklist of patients.
Training and Development
The successful candidate will undergo a comprehensive training program supervised by experienced lithotripsy radiographers and the Clinical Lead Urologist. Training will cover ESWL treatments, basic nursing procedures relevant to the role, image interpretation, and clinical documentation. The trainee will complete a logbook of competencies in both ureteric and renal treatments. Following successful completion, the trainee will be signed off as competent by the Clinical Lead and Lead Radiographer and will progress to a Band 7 Advanced Practitioner in lithotripsy, responsible for running their own lithotripsy treatment clinic lists.
Career Progression
The role will initially start as a Band 6 training post, subsequently becoming a Band 7 once fully trained and able to undertake independent lists. The post holder may take responsibility for the lithotripsy unit and support the service lead in developing the pathway to an extended service.
