Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Stoma Care Team for a Clinical Nurse Specialist with specific knowledge in colorectal surgery and the care of stomas.

We are seeking a registered nurse to join our CNS team. The successful candidate will be supported through a development framework to become an autonomous CNS within the team. Successful applicants will be motivated, have excellent organisational and communication skills and will be committed to caring for patients with stomas. Knowledge and skills in Stoma care and surgical nursing are essential.

The Stoma team is a multidisciplinary team providing care and support for patient’s pre and post colorectal surgery.

This post requires interpersonal and organisational skills also, the ability to communicate and present at all levels. A flexible approach is vital, as is the need to be self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and priorities tasks/objectives.

Main duties of the job

Assessment a patient's stoma care needs and education of patient and/ or carers.

To support for patient’s pre and post colorectal surgery.

To act as key worker within the MDT.

To manage own case load of patients, supporting individual agreed management regimes with the patient, which acknowledge and are responsive to their psychological, physiological and educational needs.

Optimise the continuity of care of patients between the Hospital and Community.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. First Level Registration with valid NMC
2. First Degree or evidence of working towards
3. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Extensive post registration experience including colorectal surgery
5. Relevant experience in stoma care
6. Specialist training relevant to role

Desirable criteria

7. Stoma siting

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

8. Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with groups.
9. Organised approach to working with effective time management skills
10. Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually
11. Ability to manage complex workload under pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines
12. Ability to manage organisational change

13. IT literate with a working knowledge of Lorenzo and EDMS
