Description
As Senior Legal Counsel – Technology and Operations, you'll provide expert legal support on complex, high impact and strategically significant issues, ensuring effective risk management, strategic alignment and consistent application of legal policies. As a trusted advisor to DAZN’s technology and operations senior management, you'll influence commercial and operational decisions, contributing to the organisation by delivering high-quality, pragmatic legal advice, proactively identifying opportunities to enable business growth, reducing external legal spend, and supporting the development of the wider Legal Team.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Lead on drafting, negotiation, and legal positioning within scope of responsibility. Independently manage high-value and strategically significant technology and operations matters with minimal supervision.
* Identify and manage legal risks related to transactions, commercial matters, and compliance; elevate when necessary. Develop and implement practical risk-mitigation strategies aligned with the company’s risk profile.
* Mentor Legal Counsel and Paralegals; foster knowledge sharing and team development. Act as a role model in embedding a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration across teams, geographies and practice areas.
* Act as primary contact for external legal support in relevant subject matter areas. Oversee scope, cost management and performance of external advisors to ensure value and consistency with internal standards and expectations.
* Ensure consistent application of legal policies, templates, and frameworks across all matters. Help contribute to policy development and continuous improvement of governance frameworks.
* Business Partnership: Provide strategic and commercially focused legal input to business initiatives, projects and negotiations. Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders and lawyers to balance risk and opportunity.
What You'll Bring:
* Technical Skills: Advanced legal drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills. Specific technical expertise to draft and negotiate core technology agreements – including contracts relating to applications, software licensing, network infrastructure and connectivity, platforms and enterprise systems. Provide legal support for business stakeholders relating to operations and strategic business systems, including broadcast operations and product development.
* Soft Skills: Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities with the ability to balance legal precision with commercial pragmatism.
* Leadership Skills: Ability to mentor and guide junior team members and to lead cross-departmental/functional workstreams of projects to successful completion.
* Experience: Significant experience in corporate/commercial law and/or relevant legal practice in the Technology, Media, Telecoms sector. Ideally previous legal experience in relation to content delivery network services, live and non-live OTT platforms & players, video broadcasting production, video distribution and content acquisition. Working knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018 and the E-Privacy Regulation, and experience of managing compliance with the same, such as identifying data privacy risks, understanding data privacy impact assessments and implementing compliance procedures.
* Education: Relevant degree and professionally qualified Solicitor. Around 4-6 years of PQE, having trained at and subsequently worked in a highly successful and recognised technology/commercial team either in private practice, or a strong in-house team.
