Our client is a leading metal component manufacturer supplying to customers globally. The work on site is precision manufacturing working with different processes to produce their finished product.
The purpose of the Laboratory Manager is to manage the daily activities of the test laboratory. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the scheduling and testing of WIP, training and certification of lab technicians, maintaining calibration of the test equipment and ensuring requirements are adhered to as defined in our clients internal procedures. You will be leading a team of 4 Lab Technicians and will be responsible for scheduling test activity to maintain a standard daily batch output in line with demand which will be typical 12-14 batches per day.
Laboratory Manager background needed:
* Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent experience) in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science (Desired)
* Two years’ experience in managing a team.
* Two years’ experience in mechanical testing.
* Capable of interpreting industry standards for test requirements.
* Participated in Material Testing Lab audits
Key Tasks for Laboratory Manager:
* Schedule team activity to maintain daily required batch closure
* Support activities to resolve any NC conditions identified through testing.
* Maintain test technician certification
* Identify and deliver training as required to ensure there are sufficient test technicians for each test discipline.
* Maintain calibration status of laboratory test equipment
* Manage the calibration activities to ensure that test equipment is valid for testing in line with customer requirements.
* Liaise with customers to resolve any identified issues.
* Support the Quality Manager with any metallurgical/test information requirements as applicable to any internal/customer queries which may arise.
* Work with process owners to develop internal processes/procedures.
* Process instructions and procedures are reviewed prior to issuing to ensure that they meet customer and regulatory requirements.
* Manage activities within the laboratory team to ensure 5S scores achieve expectations.
