About the Business Unit: Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers project and programme management services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors.
Overview Of The Role
As Head of Health, Safety and Quality you will lead the Health, Safety and Quality team across Transportation, Social Infrastructure, Environment & Water, Energy & Defence, and Built Environment for both internal and external clients.
Key Accountabilities
* Develop & deliver on strategic direction and growth plan for the Quality Health and Safety Team, ensuring alignment with the wider Specialist Advisory Services offering.
* Lead a team of 60+ cross‑sector Health and Safety and Quality resources, including specialists and multi‑discipline members.
* Manage day‑to‑day resourcing, minimise downtime and support career aspirations and development maps.
* Oversight of resourcing and recruitment to meet current workload and growth strategy.
* Be actively involved in project delivery.
* Contribute to sub‑sector business plans, focusing on revenue and profit opportunities.
* Lead business development and work‑winning activities for Health, Safety and Quality.
* Develop an integrated Health, Safety and Quality offering for both internal and external APD clients.
* Ensure team delivers work in line with internal procedures.
* Sponsor the development of best‑practice delivery in Quality Health and Safety Management.
* Act as an ambassador for the business at external forums, promoting team achievements.
Candidate Specification
Required Experience and Capabilities
* Proven people leader with experience establishing new teams, setting direction, culture and driving high performance.
* Strong business acumen and commercial mindset, with a track record of maximising market opportunities.
* Effective collaborator and advisor, able to position and sell the wider Advisory offering to clients.
* High client‑facing skills and ability to build and manage relationships at all organisational levels.
* Accountable for delivering successful client outcomes, driving excellence and profitability.
* Effective in a multi‑layered matrix environment, collaborating, influencing and engaging in collective decision‑making.
* Excellent communication skills, able to influence internally and externally.
* Degree qualified; Chartered Professional status with an accredited body is desirable.
