Position Overview
This position will support International Medical Corps’ emergency response delivering outpatient clinical care to disaster‑affected populations. Candidates applying for this role are indicating interest in the standby roster for emergency response; roster members will be contacted only when a qualified responder is needed. The position is unpaid unless deployed.
Responsibilities
* Perform complete patient assessments, reassessments, and specialized life‑support procedures, including interpreting electrocardiograms (EKGs), administering oral and intravenous medications, and controlling hemorrhage.
* Observe and adjust treatment techniques based on judgment and experience.
* Apply splints and dressings as required.
* Perform first‑aid procedures to relieve pain and suffering and provide comfort.
* Prepare detailed records of patients’ physical condition and complete medical reports for the medical team lead.
* Complete standardized internal reporting as requested by medical team leadership.
* Alert team leadership of impending shortages of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to avoid stockouts; assist in evaluating instruments and equipment for functionality.
* Ensure accurate registration and recording of patients for reporting and case management.
* Track daily patient data using tally sheets or other tools and submit required data.
* Monitor diagnostic trends and report to supervisor as needed.
* Collect and analyze project/service data to inform and adjust project objectives and strategies in collaboration with IMC team members, local partners, and other staff.
* Work with program staff, nurses, and auxiliary staff (e.g., CHWs) to provide both didactic and on‑the‑job training to build capacity and enhance skills.
* Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services.
* Support IPC, site management, and patient flow as required.
* Adhere to administrative directives regarding work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, restocking essential drugs, consumables, and other medical supplies.
* Assist with the setup, maintenance, and demobilization of the clinical spaces and base camp as required.

Qualifications
* Must be a paramedic with a valid license to practice. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
* Typically 4+ years of progressive paramedic experience, including 2+ years in low‑resource or developing country settings.
* Experience in overseas programs related to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, or HIV/AIDS preferable.
* Previous NGO experience preferable.
* Excellent organizational and multitasking skills in dynamic, high‑pressure environments.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Self‑motivated with sound judgment and decision‑making abilities.
* Highly flexible, resilient, and capable of coping with stressful situations.
* Effective interpersonal skills across diverse personalities and cultures.
* Able to work with limited resources and deploy to emergencies on short notice.
* Fluency in written and spoken English is required; fluency in Spanish, French, or Arabic is desirable.
Additional Technical or Language Requirements
* Candidates will be living and working in austere conditions; may need to lift moderately heavy objects, carry a backpack for extended periods, and walk or hike in remote locations.
* Must possess high resilience, decisiveness, and a capacity to act swiftly.
o Language skills: fluency in English is required; additional proficiency in Spanish, French, or Arabic is desirable.
