We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional to act as the Council's Competent Person and provide specialist advice and support across Staffordshire, including to neighbouring local authorities (Tamworth, Stafford, Cannock), Lichfield Garrick Theatre, and LWMTS. This role offers the opportunity to influence safety culture, work closely with senior leaders, and make a significant impact in protecting staff, contractors, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shaping and implementing health & safety strategy, policy, and best practices.
2. Ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and council standards.
3. Managing risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training.
4. Advising on insurance matters and public safety.
5. Overseeing contractor compliance and workplace audits.
Qualifications and Experience
* Educated to Degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and CMIOSH membership.
* Proven experience leading health & safety in a complex, multi-site organisation.
* Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Ability to travel easily to various offices and sites.
* Effective in complex environments and with diverse stakeholders.
* Excellent decision-making, policy development, and relationship-building skills.
* Motivational leadership and performance management skills.
* Ability to handle sensitive political issues and adapt to change.
