Carpenter / Locksmith
Location: HMP Coldingley, Shaftesbury Rd, Bisley, Woking GU24 9EX
Salary: £39,673.67 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full Time, 39 hours per week, Mon‑Fri (with on‑call)
We are seeking a dedicated Carpenter / Locksmith to join our team at HMP Coldingley, a category C adult male prison. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, you will work alongside experienced Plumbers, Electricians, Painters and other specialists to maintain a safe, secure and nurturing environment for prisoners, staff and visitors. Your role will involve planning, executing, and supervising carpentry and lock‑installing projects, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and contributing to the overall smooth operation of the prison.
Responsibilities include:
* Planning and executing carpentry and lock installation work for the prison and associated facilities.
* Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing existing work to meet safety and operational standards.
* Collaborating with other maintenance and security staff to coordinate projects and resolve issues.
* Keeping accurate records of work performed and parts used.
* Ensuring all work complies with relevant health and safety standards and MOJ policies.
Qualifications:
* Substantiated experience in a similar role.
* Ability to demonstrate competency in the use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery.
* Basic IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
* Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
* Up to date First Aid at Work qualification.
* City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or an equivalent qualification or substantial experience.
* Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
