Focus: Learning, Teaching and Assessment

Purpose of the Post

The Principal Teacher will work in close partnership with the Headteacher to lead, model and promote excellence in learning, teaching and assessment across the school.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading staff development at whole-school level, with a particular focus on pedagogy, digital learning, and empowering learners to take ownership of their own learning.
The postholder will be part of the extended leadership team, supporting improvement priorities and contributing strategically to the life of the school and its ethos of Cramond Cares - Respect, Excellence, Equality, Kindness.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership of Learning, Teaching & Assessment

Work alongside the Headteacher to drive forward the highest standards of learning, teaching and assessment, particular strength in second level is required.

Lead professional learning for staff in relation to pedagogy, curriculum design, and moderation.

Promote evidence-based practice, professional enquiry and reflective dialogue to secure improved outcomes.

Digital Learning

Develop and embed digital learning approaches to enhance pedagogy, improve engagement and raise attainment.

Build staff confidence in purposeful and creative use of digital technologies.

Support the school's continued journey as an Apple Distinguished School and Digital Schools Award holder.

Learner Agency & Pupil Voice

Champion approaches that empower learners to take responsibility for their own progress.

Ensure learners are meaningfully involved in evaluating their own learning and shaping curriculum.

Curriculum Leadership

Contribute to curriculum review and design, with a focus on Second Level progression and challenge.

Support effective transition to S1, working in partnership with cluster colleagues and secondary schools.

Wider Leadership

Contribute to leadership of improvement priorities as outlined in the SIP.

Play an active role in the extended leadership team, supporting collegiate culture and distributed leadership.

Experience of Second Level learning delivery and leadership of transition to S1.

Experience in leading excursions, residentials or group leader responsibilities.

Strong organisational skills with ability to balance operational and strategic demands.

Confidence in engaging parents, partners and the wider community to enhance learning opportunities.

Person Specification

Proven whole-school leadership experience in developing pedagogy and professional learning.

Expertise in digital learning and its application to curriculum innovation.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, support and challenge colleagues.

Commitment to equity, excellence and inclusion in line with GIRFEC and HGIOS4.

Collaborative and reflective practice, with enthusiasm for practitioner enquiry and innovation.

Cramond Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced leader to join our team as Principal Teacher. Working closely with the Headteacher, you will lead and model excellence in learning, teaching and assessment within second level team, with a particular focus on digital learning and empowering learners to take ownership of their own learning.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate impact at whole-school level, leading professional learning for staff around pedagogy and curriculum innovation.

Experience in Second Level learning, supporting transition to S1, and/or leading excursions and group activities would be highly desirable.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of learning at Cramond Primary, contributing to our ethos of Respect, Excellence, Equality and Kindness.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
