At Kingfisher Vets, we’re not just offering a job, we’re inviting you to join a team where your passion for veterinary care will be genuinely valued and your wellbeing truly supported. We’re on the lookout for a dedicated Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to become part of our warm, welcoming team at our beautifully refurbished Crewkerne branch in South Somerset.

State‑of‑the‑Art Facilities in a Community‑Focused Practice

Our Crewkerne branch has recently undergone a full refurbishment and offers an impressive clinical environment. You’ll have access to two modern operating theatres, a fully equipped dental suite with digital dental X‑ray, a large prep area, an imaging suite, and separate wards for cats and dogs. We’ve also got a dedicated isolation unit, a spacious dispensary, three consult rooms and a calm, inviting reception with separate cat and dog waiting areas. Our staff rest area is as lovely as it sounds, complete with a well‑stocked biscuit tin.

Your Day, Your Way

Most of our vets enjoy a well‑balanced mix of consulting and surgery, but if you prefer a consult‑only role, we’re more than happy to accommodate. We mainly treat dogs and cats, with the occasional rabbit, guinea pig or ferret adding a bit of variety to your day. Surgeries tend to include routine procedures such as spays, castrates, dentals, lump removals and soft‑tissue surgeries, and we have the option to refer more complex or critical cases if needed.

To help you deliver the best care, we’ve invested in top‑of‑the‑line equipment including a new ultrasound, video endoscopy, digital X‑ray, ECG, tonometer, and multi‑parameter monitoring.

A Team That Supports You - Every Step of the Way

At Kingfisher, you’ll never feel like just a number. You’ll be working alongside a team of 6 experienced vets, including one with a certificate in Small Animal Medicine, as well as 18 amazing RVNs, 2 student nurses, and an excellent support crew of receptionists, admin, and a dedicated practice manager. We also have regular visits from an orthopaedic surgeon, giving you access to even more expertise in‑house.

Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do, we genuinely care for each other, our clients, and our patients. Whether you’re bouncing ideas around, tackling a tough case, or just enjoying a coffee break together, you’ll always feel part of something special here.

We’re a team that enjoys working together and giving back, supporting both national and local charities such as Cats Protection, Guide Dogs and RSPCA.

We Care About Your Work‑Life Balance

Our people are at the heart of everything that we do, that’s why we know that work‑life balance is vital in supporting our people to be their best selves. Our flexible approach to rota patterns and working hours offers a balance that truly flexes with you and your lifestyle no matter what stage you are in your career and life.

Full‑time working 40 hours per week over 4 days and a share of Saturday morning 8:30‑1. There are no OOH. We would also consider part‑time hours for the right candidate.

We Invest in You

Your professional development matters to us. Whether you're looking to pursue a certificate, expand your clinical interests, or simply want to keep learning, we’ll back you every step of the way with funded CPD, encouragement, and time to grow at your own pace.

A Stunning Location with Space to Breathe

Based in the charming market town of Crewkerne, you'll enjoy the best of both worlds, peaceful countryside living with excellent transport links and just a short drive from the breathtaking Jurassic Coast. Whether you're into long dog walks, beach days, or cosy evenings in a local pub, Crewkerne offers the perfect lifestyle to complement your career.
