Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team in the fight against serious and organised crime in the UK waste industry. As Team Leader on the JUWC, you will manage, mentor, and develop Environmental Crime Officers, report to the Senior Team Leader, and handle hostile situations while proactively managing health and safety.
This role involves organizing and conducting multi-agency operations, leading the team, and delivering interventions to prevent, disrupt, and enforce against organised waste crime. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including Environment Agency teams, law enforcement, and legal professionals, maintaining and building relationships to expand the unit’s effectiveness.
The environment is inclusive, and the agency provides comprehensive training and equipment. The role requires regular travel and occasional overnight stays, with the main enforcement hub based in Birmingham.
The JUWC is a multi-agency taskforce tackling waste crime through innovative methods, comprising 11 enforcement organizations and 2 industry partners.
Experience/Skills Required
* Leadership experience managing a dispersed team
* Knowledge of criminal investigations and handling intelligence
* Understanding of Organised Crime Group management and targeting
* Ability to build positive relationships across enforcement and intelligence communities
Essential
* Full UK driver’s license
* Vetting for SC Security Clearance and NPPV2
Desirable
* Knowledge of legislation such as Environmental Permitting Regulations, Environment Act, PACE, CPIA, RIPA
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role based at your local Environment Agency office. All new hires will undergo training and participate in incident response duties. Interviews are scheduled for late July or early August 2025. Applications are assessed based on competency questions; CVs are not evaluated.
