Field Service Engineer – Ross Care
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, caring person to become our next Field Service Engineer. Come join the team and help us by supporting our service centre and the needs of patients out in the community. Our approved Ipswich Repair Service supports our NHS Wheelchair service in the distribution and maintenance of chairs across Suffolk. We are a dedicated team that takes pride in supporting the needs of others.
Salary and Working Hours
Annual salary: £ (phone number removed) per annum.
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:30, 40 hours per week. Permanent, full‑time.
Job Purpose
Help achieve the agreed contractual standard of service required. After completing initial training in the workshop, you will recondition wheelchair equipment to gain essential product knowledge and support your development. When fully trained, you will deliver, collect, repair and service wheelchairs in the field, aiming for first‑time fixes to ensure no impact on patients.
Responsibilities
* Delivering and collecting wheelchairs to and from service users’ homes and NHS departments.
* Servicing and repairing wheelchairs in the field, aiming for first‑time fixes whenever possible.
* Completing all paperwork and scanner data accurately for administration.
* Using PPE as instructed.
* Providing out of hours support when rostered.
* Complying with driving and vehicle use regulations.
* Maintaining vehicle cleanliness and ensuring daily stock of necessary parts.
* Completing weekly vehicle safety and van check sheets.
* Maintaining a professional customer‑service attitude, using the uniform and identification badge at all times.
* Prioritising and organising workload, referring to line manager when appropriate.
* Maintaining and safely storing all tools and equipment provided by the company.
About You (Qualifications)
* Full UK driving licence.
* Successful enhanced DBS check.
* General workshop knowledge.
* Basic electrical knowledge, including 12 v/24 v DC systems.
* Ability to move and handle loads and equipment safely.
* Experience of face‑to‑face customer contact.
* Previous delivery driver experience.
* Awareness and understanding of people with disabilities.
* Flexible approach to changing working conditions.
* Ability to use own initiative within role boundaries.
* Ability to relay photographs via mobile phone.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to give clear instructions to clients.
* Awareness of hand‑held scanners.
Physical Demands
* Moving and handling equipment and accessories following guidelines.
* Standing at a bench to work.
* Kneeling / crouching.
* Working in confined spaces (e.g., installing equipment in small toilet areas).
* Using ramps or other agreed moving equipment.
Most Challenging / Difficult Parts of the Role
* Flexibility and responsiveness to changing priorities set by line manager or customer service team.
* Commitment to short‑notice overtime required for emergency response.
* Responsibility for out‑of‑hours duties.
