Core Subject Teacher – SEMH for Independent Special School
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Core Subject teacher in a small specialist provision with children with SEMH. We are open to applicants from the Primary or Secondary Sector.
This role will support the school leadership team and maintain high standards of education, ethics, behaviour, and professional conduct. You will build positive, respectful relationships across the school community and act in the best interests of the pupils. You will create a positive learning environment that enriches school life and upholds educational standards to prepare pupils for their next phase of life.
You will be responsible for managing behaviour consistently and fairly in line with the school’s behaviour policy. The curriculum is broad, structured, coherent, flexible, and based on pupils’ interests and aptitudes. For students with an EHCP plan, their needs must be fully supported, and the school must fulfill its statutory duties regarding the SEND Code of Practice.
Safeguarding is of paramount importance, and the applicant should demonstrate a complete understanding of the duty of care. You should be able to manage staff, identify problems and barriers to school effectiveness, and develop strategies for school improvement.
Fairlight Glen is planning to expand, providing opportunities for progression towards Headship and becoming part of the senior leadership team.
The applicant should have a degree and qualified teacher status. An understanding of school finances and financial management is preferable. You should also be an effective communicator capable of building positive working relationships.
Fairlight Glen is a small, close-knit school with fewer than 8 students on roll. Staff work closely with students, often providing one-to-one teaching, which is highly impactful. Our students have struggled in mainstream settings and often have adverse childhood experiences. It is vital that the applicant understands our school setting, where individual staff can make a significant impact, and have a keen interest in young people who learn differently and present challenging behaviours.
