Strategic Transport Projects Officer
Overview
Midlothian is currently the fastest growing authority in Scotland, offering exciting transport opportunities and challenges. As part of the Strategic Transport Team, the post holder will help shape and build transport networks for a more sustainable future, contributing to transformative regional projects, strategic plans, and transport funding applications. The role involves liaising with varied stakeholders, developing lasting relationships on behalf of the Council, and supporting the delivery of the Council’s transport and planning policies.
Responsibilities
* Lead on transport decarbonisation projects and schemes to assist in public transport expansion.
* Develop and prepare strategic plans, transport funding applications, and business cases for major projects.
* Identify ways to help deliver on Council’s transport and planning policies.
* Source necessary data, analyse information, make everyday decisions and progress priority projects.
* Maintain excellent communication skills and manage a varied workload amid competing priorities.
Qualifications
* Degree in a relevant subject (essential).
* Experience of transport planning, particularly sustainable transport and infrastructure.
* Strong IT skills.
* Desirable: Post‑degree qualification and membership of an applicable professional body.
* Demonstrable initiative and ability to work independently.

* Hours of Work: 36 per week (7 hours 12 minutes per day, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks per year)
* Salary: Minimum £39,128.74 per annum (subject to the Council’s salary scale). Successful applicants will be appointed at the first point on the salary scale.
