Job Overview
We are excited to welcome a dynamic Consultant in General Medicine with good general medical experience and the ability to work closely with the MDT and specialty colleagues as necessary to ensure efficient patient journeys, and high-quality care to join our enthusiastic and dynamic group of Physicians at Frimley Health Foundation NHS Trust. If the right applicant has a concurrent specialty CCT, we could discuss the option of some potential clinic/procedural time depending on specialty, this would be subject to negotiation.
Responsibilities
The post-holder will be managerially accountable to the Chief of Service, and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer. The successful candidate will be expected to agree a formal job plan with the Chief of Medicine indicating the number of programmed activities, within 1 month of taking up post. The post-holder will be expected to cross‑cover essential services when colleagues are on leave.
They will run a stable 27‑bedded general medical ward and a variable number of medical outliers in other zones as needed over winter, potentially up to 35‑40 patients with 2 consultants. They will provide good clinical supervision and support of a team of resident doctors, without formal educational supervision.
Essential criteria
* Experience leading an MDT team
* NHS experience; able to provide expert clinical opinion; experience managing acute medical patients on AMU setting (e.g. SDEC)
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of acute medicine services
* Experience in leading a multidisciplinary team
* Qualifications – MRCP, CCT or equivalent; full GMC registration
Desirable criteria
* Involvement in design or delivery of medicine or discharge pathways
* Business planning, management or experience in training
* Clinical time working within the NHS
* Postgraduate degree, MD/PhD
