Job Summary
Two full‑time, permanent vacancies for a Class 3 G‑H Building Inspector, registered with the Building Safety Regulator. The role requires a professional membership of a building control related organisation (e.g. MCABE, MCIOB, MRICS, CEng, MIStructE or equivalent) and a valid UK driving licence. You will support the delivery of high‑quality building control services across Manchester’s diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring compliance with building safety legislation and contributing to the council’s resilience and sustainability objectives.
Working hours: 35 hours per week – flexitime with the option to accrue hours as 2 flexi‑leave days every 4 weeks. Contract: Full‑time, permanent. Location: Manchester – if you are required to reside within the council boundaries, proof of residency will be part of the pre‑employment checks.
Responsibilities
* Conduct building control inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with health, safety, sustainability and accessibility standards.
* Own a portfolio of projects, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate timely and effective approvals.
* Analyse data, identify trends and risks, and provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Maintain clear communication with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies, building strong professional relationships.
* Identify, evaluate and implement innovative solutions to complex building control challenges, balancing policy, procedure and practical application.
Qualifications
* Registered Class 3 G‑H Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
* Professional membership of a recognised building control organization (MCABE, MCIOB, MRICS, CEng, MIStructE or equivalent).
* Relevant engineering or building control experience, preferably within a local authority or registered building control approver organization.
* Full UK driving licence; essential car user – must have own vehicle.
* Strong analytical, planning, problem‑solving and communication skills.
