Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist (XR10)
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance (WY&HCA) brings together six acute Trusts (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Harrogate and District Foundation Trust) across West Yorkshire and Harrogate, and the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. The alliance aims to share best practices, address unwarranted variation, integrate care pathways, and support providers to deliver high-quality, patient-centred, and cost-effective care.
This post continues improvement work on psychologically informed care for people affected by cancer in the region, providing leadership and clinical expertise in the next phase.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and clinical expertise to steer and oversee the project.
2. Utilise links with key collaborators, including service users, commissioners, clinical leads in primary care (cancer and mental health), Talking Therapies, CMHT, hospices, and psycho-oncology services across West Yorkshire and Harrogate.
3. Deliver high-quality training and presentations to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
4. Attend regular steering meetings with key stakeholders from the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance.
5. Compile information on project work and adapt useful models from elsewhere.
6. Develop a high-quality, patient-centred pathway and service specification, considering patient experience, quality & safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and existing constraints.
7. Develop strategic relationships and partnerships with service users, commissioners, clinical leads, IAPT, CMHT, hospices, and psycho-oncology services.
8. Explore and compile information regarding existing pathways and services, including external examples.
9. Identify pathway and service specification aspects that may vary locally.
10. Engage relevant commissioners and provider networks in resource development and endorsement.
11. Carry out other delegated duties as required by the Line Manager.
Clinical Use
Apply high-level professional knowledge of clinical assessment and intervention in psycho-oncology to:
* Inform pathway development.
* Evaluate models for sharing skills and knowledge.
* Inform service and team configuration for optimal care.
* Evaluate supervision and quality assurance models.
Experience Required
Recent experience in providing a high-quality clinical psychology service, including:
* Highly specialist psychological assessment, therapy, and supervision.
* Advising on patients' psychological and neuropsychological care.
* Developing systems for efficient and equitable care delivery.
* Supervision of colleagues.
* Using research skills for audits, policy, and service development, including leading research projects.
* Working autonomously within professional guidelines and policies.
Job Dimensions
Develop and maintain communication on complex issues, promote best practices, and contribute to quality improvement. Plan and deliver interventions, evaluate new concepts, and oversee service delivery and team supervision.
