There is one post to which we are recruiting, a replacement substantive Consultant Neurology post ideally suited for a general neurologist. A special interest in a sub-specialty, including Epilepsy or Headache, would be desirable. These posts aim to supplement existing Neurological services in the Hull and NLAG hospitals.
A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs), comprising 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 2.5 for supporting activities (SPAs). Of these, 1.5 SPAs are classed as ‘core’ and cover training, teaching, CPD, audit, appraisal, clinical governance, and service meetings. Opportunities exist to participate in undergraduate teaching within the HYMS medical school curriculum. Additional SPA time can be allocated for research, clinical management, and educational supervision (ES) activities.
The post includes educational supervision of at least one trainee per year, from FY1 to specialty registrar, with ES training expected to be completed shortly after appointment. Appointees will be encouraged to develop management skills, potentially taking roles in educational activities, audit, junior doctor management, or recruitment, with training provided for the chosen role. Additional PA time is negotiable for senior management, research, or educational roles.
The weekly Job Plan for 10 PAs includes one PA for on-call work, which can be taken as time in-lieu depending on the consultant’s preference.
