Apply to join our Intensive Care Team as a Senior Locally Employed Doctor.
Responsibilities
The appointee will work across the ICU gaining clinical experience that reflects their training ambitions and needs.
The role combines supporting consultant and trainee colleagues in Critical Care while providing out‑of‑hours resident cover on a full‑shift, European Working Time Directive (EWTD) compliant rota.
All trainees receive weekly bleep‑free educational time. The programme is multi‑faceted, including face‑to‑face consultant‑led teaching, simulation scenarios, critical appraisal of key papers, and electronic learning resources.
Opportunities exist to participate in the department’s active audit, teaching and research programmes, subject to applicant interests.
Successful doctors will be appointed to the EWTD‑compliant full‑shift rota, structured over an average 7‑week cycle.
Our critical care service has 12 beds (6 ICU, 6 high‑dependency) and accommodates up to 359 level 2/3 admissions annually.
Training in Ultrasound is available from mentors in both FICE and Thoracic Ultrasound.
Participants engage in ICM tutorials once a week, daily teaching ward rounds, and a weekly ICM Grand Round and Journal Club.
Qualifications & Experience
Suitable for UK medical graduates, European Economic Area graduates, or international candidates (see section 2 below).
