Job Title: Sales AdvisorLocation: John Thompson & Sons York RoadReporting to: Commercial Sales ManagerHours:9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with flexibilitySalary will depend on experience.Job Purpose:The Sales Advisor is responsible for driving commercial growth within a designated sales territory by developing existing customer relationships, securing new business, and delivering high-quality technical and advisory support. The role combines customer engagement, farm-level service delivery, and strong commercial acumen to ensure the company achieves its market share, service, and financial objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain, strengthen, and grow business with existing customers through regular visits, proactive engagement, and tailored support.Identify, secure, and develop new customers and accounts to expand the companys footprint within the territory.Achieve company targeted market share by executing effective sales strategies and maintaining a strong presence across the regional area.Provide regular feedback on sales activity, competitor insights, and marketing intelligence.Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring professionalism and consistency in every interaction.Provide accurate technical guidance to customers, supporting informed decision making and product optimisation.Act promptly on customer complaints, ensuring effective follow up and resolution.Maintain clear, timely communication with customers, colleagues, and partners.Implement and manage company credit policies and procedures to minimise financial risk.Ensure accounts are collected within agreed terms, addressing issues promptly.Promote direct debit and postal payment options to support efficient account management.Deliver company ruminant services effectively at farm level and within the merchant network.Conduct sampling, analysis, and interpretation of silage and grass results to support customer feeding strategies.Prepare accurate, tailored feed plans to optimise herd performance and customer outcomes.Support meetings, demonstrations, product launches, and marketing campaigns.Complete all sales, prospecting, and customer activity records accurately and on time.Maintain regular telephone contact and conduct scheduled customer visits.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pricing policies, product information, and technical developments.Undertake any other duties as required to support the success of the business.Person SpecificationEssential CriteriaCustomercentric approachwith a strong commitment to service excellence.Effective communication skillswith the ability to build rapport and influence decision-making.Salesdriven mindsetwith the ability to identify opportunities and close business.Technical aptitudewith the ability to understand and explain product and farm level information.Problemsolving abilitywith a proactive and solutions focused approach.Attention to detailin record keeping, analysis, and customer documentation.Team collaborationwith the ability to work effectively with colleagues and partners.Experience in a sales, agricultural, or customer-facing role.Experience working with farmers, merchants, or agricultural supply chains (or a strong willingness to learn).Understanding of agricultural practices, livestock nutrition, or farm operations (training can be provided).Awareness of commercial processes including pricing, credit control, and customer account management.Professionalismand integrity in all interactions.Resilience and adaptabilityin a fast-paced, field-based environment.Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage a varied workload independently.Hold a current valid driving licenceDesirable CriteriaFormal training or qualifications in agriculture, animal nutrition, or a related field.Experience conducting on-farm assessments or technical sampling.Knowledge of feed planning, grassland management, or livestock performance metrics.Possess a 3rd level qualification in agriculture2+years Sales experience in the animal feed industry or general agricultural industryPerks of ThompsonsThe Opportunity to work for a company within the Top 10 Companies in Northern Ireland.RemunerationCompetitive SalaryAbove Statutory Holiday EntitlementDeath in Service Benefit x 4Cycle To Work SchemeFree Secure Onsite ParkingEnhanced ERs Pension @ 6%Vouchers @ ChristmasLong Service AwardsCompetitive Shift PremiumsCompany UniformTraining and Career Development OpportunitiesJob Security 150+ yrs in businessCompany Sick PayEnhanced Maternity PayEnhanced Paternity PayWHJS1_NI
