The Position
The Project Design Engineer provides design and engineering management services across all markets and technologies within the RES Group, with a focus on adding value and managing risk.Working within interdisciplinary project teams, the Project Design Engineer manages engineering activities during all phases of BESS (battery energy storage system), solar, wind and green hydrogen projects. These engineering activities include:
1. Management and coordination of both civil and multi-disciplinary design and engineering activities during preliminary and detailed design.
2. Development of contract technical information (eg specifications) and review of associated third-party design compliance.
3. Compliance with engineering governance and standardised technical solutions to maintain a consistent and best practice approach across different RES markets and technologies.
4. Safety in design, including leading and coordinating RES’ responsibilities as Principal Designer, under CDM Regulations (or national equivalent legislation).
Organisational ContextThe Project Design Engineer reports to Project Engineering Manager, within the Group Civil Engineering team, which additionally performs detailed civil design and assessment services across RES Group.The Group Civil Engineering team forms part of the Group Engineering Department and supports all RES Regional Businesses across all phases of low carbon projects. In a changing global market RES needs to achieve cost parity with conventional generation and fuel growth of renewable energy. In support of the above, the Project Design Engineer focuses on design management and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. AccountabilitiesThe Project Design Engineer must:
5. Coordinate interdisciplinary engineering teams and lead structured design reviews.
6. Manage design change control, identify interface risks and work with stakeholders to resolve them.
7. Ensure designs meet necessary specifications.
8. Managing external designers and the review of their outputs.
9. Ensure that design team capabilities and resources are aligned with project needs.
10. Provide technical risk mitigation to support effective management across the RES Group.
Knowledge
11. Sound knowledge of engineering principles and their application to the renewable energy sector.
12. Broad appreciation of renewable technologies and their application to RES projects.
13. Working knowledge of relevant standards, regulations and best practice.
14. Understanding of cross-functional project requirements and priorities.
15. Knowledge of UK CDM Regulations 2015 or Irish Construction Regulations 2013.

16. Leadership and management of people and processes.
17. Strong communication skills with internal teams, external engineers and project managers.
18. Ability to manage multidisciplinary designs with complex project interfaces.
19. Commercial awareness relating to contract compliance, cost control and relative value of engineering solutions.

22. Management of health and safety in design, including risk mitigation.

Qualifications
26. Honours degree in an engineering discipline or related subject.
27. Project management qualifications or training (preferred).
28. A full UK&I Driving licence is essential as the role will involve site visits
