Job overview

To act in a supportive role to the nursing team to assist in the delivery of quality care to the patient in the renal care setting. To maintain good relationships with patients, colleagues and visitors.

To provide the highest standard of nursing care to all patients undergoing renal treatments and thus contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the renal service.

For those staff already employed by the Trust as a Clinical Support Worker either on Band 2 or Band 3, you should instead apply through the Clinical Support Worker transfer process via your line manager/Matron rather than via this advert.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Support Worker you will provide vital assistance to patients and support them with their physical and emotional care needs.

You will also be responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients.

Main Duties of this role:

1. Assessment of the patient
2. Undertaking vital sign management
3. Maintenance of Haemodialysis
4. Termination of haemodialysis treatment
5. Ongoing review and assessment of patient
6. Maintaining fluid and nutritional intake
7. Line/priming of Haemodialysis machin

Qualifications

Essential criteria

8. Completion of the STH 5 day Healthcare Support Worker Programme (HCSW) within the 12 months prior to employment, OR attendance at the programme on employment [undertaken on a full time basis after appointment, upon induction]
9. Achievement of the Care Certificate OR commitment to completion of the Care Certificate within four months of employment
10. GCSE English and Maths at grade D or above (or relevant equivalent qualification or level of ability which would include Functional Skills Level 1)

Desirable criteria

11. Level 2 Apprenticeship (or equivalent) in Health Care / health related subject or equivalent experience

12. Experience of working in a caring environment or Experience as a carer

Essential criteria

13. Must be willing to undertake training as required which is specific to the post as identified through service delivery
14. Ability to communicate effectively with both patients and colleagues, including the ability to discuss sensitive issues, demonstrating tact and empathy
15. Demonstrates insight / understanding into the role applied for in delivering care to meet patient needs
16. Understands the importance of confidentiality and demonstrates a knowledge of how it can be maintained
17. Able to follow verbal and written instructions in order to complete assigned tasks.

27. For Community Posts only - must be Car Driver in possession of a Full UK Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle due to requirements
