Main duties of the job
The post holder, under the direction and supervision ofthe senior staff, delivers care within the environment, assisting in thedevelopment of all aspects of care for older people with mental healthproblems. Job responsibilities
MAIN DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Undersupervision, assists in the assessment, planning and implementation of mentalhealth care to meet the needs of the individual.
2.Participatesin the development of high quality care, ensuring the needs of the older personare met. This includes ensuring thateach patient exercises their rights of choice, dignity and privacy.
3.Participationin occupational and diversional activities.
4.Attend tothe physical needs of clients helping with dressing, washing, toileting andother personal needs where necessary, to give helpful advice and encouragementto patients who wish to perform such tasks for themselves.
5.Undertakeduties aimed at supporting the patient to return to live in the community(where appropriate) for example, listening to and conversing with clients,helping them to maintain contact with family, friends and community, assistingwith recreation aimed at creating a supportive atmosphere where patients canachieve maximum independence.
6.To observethe patients general condition and report any changes to the appropriatehealth professional.
7.To be awareof their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act and to workin such a way as to encourage an atmosphere conducive to healthy workingconditions.
8.To be awareof and comply with all relevant policies and procedures laid down by NAViGO.
9.To workflexibly participating in a 24 hour rota.
10.Attendingand participating in ward/department meetings as required.
11.To beaware of the need for complete confidentiality.
12.Engage insupervision and PDR processes as per local policy.
13.Participatein mandatory and other training as required
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Has a basic understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DoLs. Is open to development of their knowledge in needs of mental health patients.
* Basic written communication skills to enable completion of records, etc.
* Demonstrates a good understanding of mental health.
* NVQ level II or a willingness to undertake this or a certificate in Mental Health.
* Basic IT knowledge

* Aware of Health & Safety principles of self and others. Work safely within Health and Safety policies.
* Demonstrates ability to listen and communicate effectively and to be empathic, compassionate and patient.
* Demonstrate ability to work as Team member and form positive, therapeutic relationships with service users, carers and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
Additional Criteria
* Be accessible and flexible in availability.
* Willing to travel within the geographic work area in an effective manner.
* Ability to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings, nights, and bank holidays as required to meet service needs.
Experience
* Demonstrates a good understanding of mental health.
* Have the practical skills to assist with activities of daily living, and be prepared to assist with basic practical tasks.
* Must demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
