The hours are subject to change as the pupil moves through
the school and are dependent on the timetable of the pupil
Salary: Band APoint 19 (£24,337) based on a full time equivalent
salary for a full academic year
Actual gross salary based on 13 hours per week for a full
academic year (£6,318)
Responsible to: Head of Learning Support
Main Purpose of Job:
To work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with an individual in the classroom.
General
* Support the development and review of personal plans and monitoring systems;
* Undertake continuous professional development;
* Willingness to complete additional training where deemed beneficial to the support role;
* Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice (2015), Disability Discrimination Act and Equality Act (2010);
* Liaise with the pupil to help them to work in an appropriate way. This might include support with planning and organising time and workload or prompting pupil regarding appointments or activities which require attention;
* Maintain open and regular communication with the pupils' Form Tutor and SENCo as appropriate;
* Communicate with house/departmental staff if necessary, paying close attention to confidentiality requirements;
* Gradually reduce and withdraw support as the pupil becomes increasingly integrated whilst keeping lines of communication open;
* To engage in relevant training appropriate to the role and attend supervision/team meetings where relevant;
* Support the pupil in developing effective self care;
* Supervise the pupil using the shower and toilet facilities as appropriate to the individual's needs;
* Provide some direct personal care in respect of mobility, self care and medication;
* Provide support during key periods of transition. This might include accompanying the pupil between key venues, supporting the pupil with navigation or sourcing information on the pupils behalf if the busy environment might be overwhelming for them.
Organisational Relationships
* Responsible to the Head of Learning Support (SENCO) but works to and with a qualified teacher on a day to day basis;
* Liaise with teachers, other support staff, health and education specialists, parents, visitors and volunteers.
Principal Accountabilities or Activities
Support for Pupils
* Use curricular/learning skills and experience to support the pupil and assisting with the development and implementation of personal plans;
* Establish productive working relationships with the pupil, acting as a role model and setting high expectations while encouraging the pupil to interact and work cooperatively with others;
* Support the pupil constantly whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs and at the same time promote the inclusion of all pupils';
* Employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance, providing feedback to the pupil in relation to progress and achievement.
Support for the Teacher
* Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate, and establishing an appropriate learning environment;
* Monitor and evaluate the pupils responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against predetermined learning objectives and provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to the teacher on the pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence;
* Promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage the pupil to take responsibility for their own behaviour;
* Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher within your role/responsibility and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents with, or as directed;
* Provide general clerical/admin support e.g. administer coursework, produce worksheets for agreed activities etc;
* Provide information for parents evenings.
Support for the Curriculum
* Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to the pupil responses/needs including the literacy and numeracy programmes, making effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of literacy and numeracy skills;
* Help the pupil to access learning activities through specialist support including supporting the use of ICT in learning activities and developing the pupils competence and independence in its use;
* Determine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources.
Support for the School
* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person;
* Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of the pupil;
* Attend and participate in regular meetings and take part in training and other learning activities as required;
* Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others and assist in the supervision, training and development of staff;
* Undertake planned supervision of the pupil out of school hours and supervise the pupil on visits, trips and out of school activities as required;
* To undertake other duties and activities within the scope of the post, as required by the line manager.
