Role Overview
This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on Senior Design Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and taking ownership of programmes from concept through qualification.
Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will lead the design and development of complex hardware systems, ensuring products meet stringent technical, environmental, and customer requirements typical of defence and aerospace programmes.
This is a strategic technical role where your expertise will directly influence system architecture, product performance, and engineering best practices across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware & System Design Leadership
* Lead the design and development of complex hardware systems across the full product lifecycle
* Translate technical and customer requirements into robust engineering solutions
* Ensure designs meet demanding environmental, reliability, and compliance standards
Full Lifecycle Engineering Ownership
* Drive projects from concept design through detailed engineering, prototyping, testing, and qualification
* Support system validation, environmental testing, and certification activities
* Deliver high-performance designs suitable for harsh and regulated environments
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and external suppliers to ensure design feasibility and quality
* Collaborate across electrical, electronic, mechanical, and systems engineering disciplines
Technical Mentorship
* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
* Promote continuous improvement in engineering practices, design processes, and technical standards
Requirements
Engineering Background
* Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience)
* 5+ years’ experience in hardware or systems design within aerospace, defence, or high-reliability industrial sectors
Technical Expertise
* Strong knowledge across:
* Electrical and electronic system design
* EMC and environmental compliance
* Mechanical design integration
* Hardware systems operating in harsh environments
Professional Capability
* Proven ability to independently lead engineering projects
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
* Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
