Qualified Adult Functional Skills English Tutor
Location: Wigan
Contract: Full-time (Mon-Thurs would be considered)
Pay: Hourly rate paid for delivery and prep/planning/CPD time — equivalent to a full-time salaried role
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and qualified Functional Skills English Tutor to join our successful adult education provision. You’ll support learners working towards Functional Skills English qualifications from Entry Level 2 up to Level 2, helping them build confidence, achieve their goals, and progress in work and life.
This role involves travel across the Wigan area, delivering high-quality teaching in community and centre-based settings. Full support, planning time, and CPD are fully paid to reflect the true value of your work.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging and effective Functional Skills English sessions (Entry 2–Level 2)
* Conduct and contribute to initial assessments and learner diagnostics
* Plan high-quality lessons and personalised learning pathways
* Track and assess learner progress, providing constructive feedback
* Maintain accurate records in line with quality and funding requirements
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain our strong achievement outcomes
We’re looking for someone who is:
* A qualified English tutor with a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS/DET or equivalent)
* Experienced in delivering Functional Skills English to adults
* Confident travelling across the Wigan borough as part of the role
* Committed to inclusive teaching and supporting learners with varying needs
* Organised, proactive, and passionate about adult education
All candidates who register with Reed Further Education will have 2 years’ referencing taken up and will be required to have a DBS check completed. All offers are conditional upon satisfactory background checks.
Reed Further Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment by completing mandatory training within 6 weeks of your first assignment and annually thereafter.
