Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position is responsible for guarding the pool, ensuring the safety of all patrons, enforcing pool rules, and implementing the branch emergency protocols as needed.
Responsibilities
* Prevent emergencies by scanning the pool in a continuous and consistent manner.
* Recognize emergencies or potential incidents and address them immediately.
* Know and activate the branch and pool EAP when needed.
* Perform assists or rescues as needed.
* Provide care such as CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen as needed.
* Complete incident reports in a timely and effective manner.
* Enforce pool rules and handle issues as they arise in a professional manner.
* Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times.
* Assist with cleaning and testing of the pool when not on the stand.
* Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with all supervisors.
* Participate in all branch safety and quality drills and attend required trainings.
* Arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of scheduled shift; ensure doors are securely locked when lifeguard is not on duty.
* Assume responsibility for finding own coverage if hours change in writing and signed by consenting parties.
* Engage in active listening with members to build relationships and support their goals.
* Maintain a professional image and demeanor aligned with the YMCA mission and goals.
* All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* At least 18 years of age.
* Required trainings/certifications: Child Abuse Prevention (within first four weeks), Respect in the Workplace (Sexual Harassment Prevention), The Professional Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, Oxygen, and YMCA Lifeguarding.
Work Environment and Schedule
* Work environment: noise level usually moderate to high.
* Shifts vary; may include early mornings, nights, and weekends.
