Job Overview
I am looking for a caring and reliable Personal Assistant to support my child within the family home and eventually out in the community. The role would suit someone patient, energetic, calm under pressure, and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive.
Currently funded for 6 hours per week, usually worked flexibly during weekends with additional flexibility during school holidays. As my son is home educated, there may be opportunities for weekday support over time.
Responsibilities
* Support and/or prompt with personal care, including toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, and dressing.
* Provide continuous supervision to maintain safety, reporting any accidents or hazards immediately.
* Support communication and interaction through play and engagement, including sensory play, outings, and motivating activities both at home and in the community.
* Encourage independence, emotional regulation, and social interaction, following therapeutic approaches and routines already established within the home.
* Create a calm, positive, and trusting environment.
* Promote friendships and independence; develop a good, trusting one‑to‑one working relationship.
* Perform any other duties reasonably required by the employer.
Qualifications
* Caring, patient, reliable, and understanding; calm and proactive in approach.
* Willing to learn communication and therapeutic strategies.
* Physically active and able to safely support an energetic child.
* Ability to build and maintain a trusting relationship over time.
* Experienced in supporting children or young people with additional needs (preferred but not essential).
* Honest, reliable, trustworthy, and punctual.
* Confidentiality and respect for privacy; prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
* Ability to work on own initiative and follow instructions accurately.
* Good listening skills and ability to provide non‑judgemental emotional support.
* Empathy and genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals.
* Flexible and adaptable to the employer’s daily needs.
Additional Requirements
Enhanced DBS check required; paid for by the employer.
