The Purpose of this Role: HGV Driver Team LeaderRecycling and Waste are often the public face of the Council we provide the services the public see and care about. How we behave directly impacts on peoples perception of the Council as a whole. It is the only Council service which reaches every resident every week.This role is essential in ensuring collections are undertaken professionally, efficiently and most importantly, safely.
As a driver you will be the Team Leader overseeing the Loaders and, if necessary, keeping in contact with Area Supervisors to make them aware of any issues/problems when the collections are being undertaken.Your responsibilities are to:-Drive Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs) or other vehicles for the collection of recycling and waste in a professional manner.Recycling and waste collections include:Food wasteGarden wasteResidual waste (including hygiene)Dry recycling e.g. paper, glassTrade wasteEnsure all scheduled collections are completed taking note of assisted collections and extra allocations.Hold a clean and current LGV licence and ensure your CPC is kept up to date.Act as Team Leader working constructively and effectively as part of the Recycling and Waste collections team. Ensure the crews are undertaking collections in a safe and efficient manner; ensuring that all relevant PPE is worn, that receptacles are placed back as per procedures, any spillages cleaned up, and that all recycling is monitored for contamination and the correct procedures are followed.Carry out your role in a polite, courteous and professional manner and ensure that collection crews are doing the same.Promote an inclusive and open culture that encapsulates the core MCC principles of teamwork, openness, fairness, flexibility and kindness.Carry out daily safety checks of the vehicle, ensuring that any defects are recorded and reported to your supervisor immediately.Ensure that the Vehicle, yourself, the crew and their operations are in accordance with the relevant aspects of Health and Safety legislation/policies and that safe working practices are followed: e.g.
route risk assessments taken into account, reversing assistants used, PPE compliance.Ensure the route risks assessments are kept up to date and liaise with the Supervisor and other WSS colleagues for any changes that need to be made e.g. new hazards.Report all accidents, incidents and near misses in a timely fashion to your Area or Deputy Supervisor.To be directly responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle and to ensure vehicles are fuelled at the end of the day, (where possible vehicles should be fuelled in Raglan Depot or Caldicot Depot and only in emergencies should Services be used to fuel vehicles).Person Specification HGV Driver Team LeaderHow will we know if you are the right person for the role? As the successful candidate you will have demonstrated:-Hold a clean driving LGV driving licence - category C.Relevant experience within a similar role.Experience of and willingness to lead an effective team.A good understanding of Health and Safety issuesA willingness to abide by the agreed H&S policies and procedures and an ability to carry out duties in a safe and acceptable manner.Able to work without close supervisionHave good communication skillsUnderstand the purpose of the recycling and waste serviceAbility to oversee/supervise colleagues to ensure collections are being undertaken in a safe and professional mannerBe committed to providing a quality recycling service (e.g.
