OSS Sweeper Driver / Labourer
Location: Belfast
Pay: £ per hour
Contract: Temporary
Working Pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week (rota-based)
About the Role
Belfast City Council is recruiting OSS Sweeper Driver / Labourers to support frontline cleansing operations across the city. This role plays a vital part in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces for residents and visitors.
You will work as part of a small operational team delivering manual and mechanical street cleansing services, operating specialist vehicles and equipment, and engaging positively with the public.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operate and maintain allocated cleansing vehicles and equipment
2. Carry out manual and mechanical street sweeping across roads, footpaths, parks, alleyways, and public spaces
3. Empty litter bins, collect waste, and remove litter from surrounding areas
4. Transport team members to routes and depots as required
5. Complete daily vehicle checks, defect reporting, servicing, and cleaning
6. Safely load and unload waste, ensuring vehicles are not overloaded
7. Follow assigned routes, schedules, and rotas
8. Assist with general labouring duties including lifting, sweeping, and waste removal
9. Engage with members of the public, responding to queries and complaints professionally
10. Comply with health & safety legislation, PPE requirements, and council procedures
11. Accurately complete work records, mileage, fuel, and defect logs
Essential Criteria
Applicants must, by the closing date:
12. Hold a full Category C1 driving licence valid in Northern Ireland
13. Hold a valid Driver CPC (Driver Qualification Card)
14. Have at least one year's relevant experience in:Driving in a commercial or public sector environmentOutdoor cleaning or cleansing work using tools/equipment safelyDealing directly with members of the public
