Job overview
As an Assistant Technical Officer, the post holder will be expected to work unsupervised in simple cardiac diagnostic investigations. It is expected that the successful candidate will possess initiative and drive to complement their role, within a busy department, and who will relish the challenge of being part of the team that will be taking our department forward. Candidates who lack experience will be provided with training plans devised by our training co-ordinator to address the training needs. The department encourages continual professional development. The successful candidate will ideally work towards the SCST, Certificate in ECG interpretation and will be expected to work across both New Cross and Cannock sites and to support our CDC unit.
Main duties of the job
To provide routine technical and clerical support to the cardiology service under the supervision of qualified staff, ensuring high-quality patient care and smooth running of the department. The role involves assisting with basic technical tasks, patient preparation, equipment handling, stock management, and administrative duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Assist in the preparation of patients for non-invasive cardiology investigations (e.g., ECGs, Holter monitors, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring).
· Provide reassurance and clear instructions to patients before, during, and after procedures.
· Clean, check, and maintain cardiology equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
· Support senior staff in attaching and removing monitoring devices and ensuring accurate labelling and documentation.
· Prepare and maintain clinical areas, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for patient use.
· Receive, unpack, and store cardiology consumables and equipment, following stock rotation procedures.
· Input basic patient and test information into departmental IT systems with accuracy.
· Assist with the filing, scanning, and distribution of reports as required.
· Adhere to departmental infection prevention and health & safety protocols.
· Participate in training and competency assessments relevant to cardiology services.
