Role: Project Design Engineer
Location: Cranfield (hybrid)
Duration: 12 months
Rate: £31.86/hour Inside IR35

Main tasks and responsibilities:
1. Implement onboard telematics systems for vehicles manufactured in Europe for global markets.
2. Develop and deliver the In Vehicle Connectivity (IVC) ECU for specific vehicle programs.
3. Manage Tier 1 suppliers to meet quality, cost, and timing targets.
4. Generate and release TCU configuration data.
5. Coordinate supplier validation according to design standards before software release.
6. Collaborate with internal test departments to verify functionality and performance of vehicle connected services.
7. Create and maintain cross-carline development plans.
8. Work with Telematics Service Providers to align development schedules with project milestones.
9. Conduct design reviews at key milestones.
10. Perform hands-on investigation and analysis on test benches and vehicles.
Qualifications, skills, and training requirements:
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
* Experience in manufacturing BOM management (advantageous).
* Proficiency in Office 365 tools, including Excel at an intermediate/advanced level.
* Fluent written and verbal English skills.
* Practical experience with problem-solving tools and techniques, and strong mathematical understanding.
Required experience:
* Experience in automotive ECU development.
* Basic system knowledge of vehicle connectivity.
* Understanding of mobile network infrastructure and data transfer.
Applicants with experience in ECU development other than telematics may be considered.
Desirable knowledge:
* Knowledge of 4G/5G technologies.
* Understanding of non-European mobile networks.
* Knowledge of MQTT.
* Understanding of End-to-End System architecture with Cloud Infrastructure.
* Familiarity with European eCall regulation.
* Experience with analysis tools like CANalyser, DLT Viewer, Wireshark, UDS diagnostic tools.
