The Role
Being part of one of the UKs largest building engineering consultancies, we benefit from collaborating with some of the best engineers in the business, with access to state-of-the-art technical support, and have the opportunity to work on some of the UKs largest and most high-profile projects as part of a multidisciplinary team. The fire team also works independently on fantastic projects, with many in our team developing long-term relationships with clients.
Examples of projects include Heathrow’s Terminal 2, Doha’s new metro, the £1 billion Elephant and Castle redevelopment in London, the extension to the ExCeL centre, and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young Persons in Edinburgh. We lead fire engineering design with other Hoare Lea disciplines and have long-standing relationships with external clients. Our fire group provides extensive training and development opportunities, including weekly training sessions, away-days, innovation days, and access to external training and conferences. We support Chartered Engineer status with a dedicated programme.
As a graduate engineer, your day-to-day tasks will vary as you are exposed to all aspects of our work to discover what suits you. You could be:
* Working on live projects from day one
* In a variety of sectors from healthcare to hotels
* Producing detailed designs and drawings
* Using the latest computer modelling software CAD and Revit
* Undertaking site surveys
* Researching ground-breaking technologies
* Engaging in Continuous CPD and learning opportunities
* Reviewing building designs to assess compliance and designing solutions to bespoke fire engineering problems as part of the design team
* Undertaking calculations for smoke and temperature spread, CFD simulations, fire dynamics and structural assessments; analysing potential fires and providing recommendations on life safety systems and fire strategy reports
Communication will span project teams, client meetings, end-user discussions, and collaborative meetings. You will receive a dedicated mentor and supervisor and the best training to support your development with us.
About You
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
* An expected or achieved 2.2 or above in an Engineering Council accredited degree, ideally Fire Safety Engineering or equivalent (such as Building Services, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) or a science-based degree (such as Maths, Physics)
* A masters or other relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage
* Ideally a grade B or above in A-Level Maths or a Science-related subject
* Previous placement or work experience in a similar industry is an advantage
* An understanding of CFD or similar modelling software is an advantage
* Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills
* Ability to work in a team environment and independently
* A friendly, ambitious and confident individual with a flexible and resilient approach
