Senior Systems Engineer – Complex Communication Systems
📍 Northampton (predominantly on-site, hybrid available) | Permanent
We’re working with a specialist UK engineering business designing and delivering complex communication and sensing systems used in demanding operational environments. The company operates as a small, highly capable engineering team, delivering both new product development and bespoke customer solutions.
They are looking to hire a Senior Systems Engineer to play a key role across the full system lifecycle — from early concept and bid support through architecture, verification and delivery.
The Role
You’ll act as a technical integrator and system owner, working closely with RF, hardware, embedded software and mechanical engineers to define and deliver end-to-end solutions.
Responsibilities include:
Systems engineering across the full lifecycle (requirements → architecture → verification)
Supporting bids, tenders and early technical solution definition
System architecture and interface definition
System performance analysis and verification
Leading design reviews and managing technical trade-offs
Producing system documentation, specifications and test artefacts
Acting as a technical focal point across multiple engineering disciplinesThis is a hands-on senior role, combining technical depth with ownership and delivery responsibility rather than line management.
Background Sought:
5+ years’ experience in a systems engineering or product engineering role
Strong grasp of systems engineering methods and lifecycle thinking
Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary engineered systems
Comfortable operating independently and guiding other engineers
Able to deliver under pressure in resource-constrained environmentsUseful Experience (not all required)
Exposure to communications, RF-enabled, sensing or data-link systems
Awareness of digital or analogue electronics and/or embedded software
Experience contributing to concept of operations or early system definition
Background in bespoke engineering, defence, security, or mission-critical productsPracticalities
Predominantly on-site role due to system integration work (hybrid supported)
Minimal travel
UK right to work required and ability to obtain security clearanceWhy Consider It?
